Peace and Faith In Anxious Times: March 2020

Esther and Camille's urgent return to Goma and an update on Africa New Day operations

The rapid escalation of COVID-19 in the United States forced Esther and Camille to cancel their remaining plans here and cut their visit short. They were fortunate to board one of the final outbound flights and return home to Goma safely.

Like in the U.S., the government of D.R. Congo is taking aggressive steps to slow the spread of the Coronavirus and mitigate its impact: closing borders, social distancing, stringent disinfection and aggressive quarantines.

Sadly the threat of disease is nothing new in Goma. But mercifully the count of positive cases in D.R. Congo remains low. As we write this, there have been fewer than five infected and all came from countries abroad.

At Africa New Day, our very important work continues both in the US and D.R. Congo. We have been called to serve. We are complying with government directives to ensure our safety so we can serve those in our community.

We have suspended all school activities and church services in Goma. Teachers are preparing lessons and homework for the families, while administration works with parents to ensure teachers continue to receive pay. Camille and Esther have been screened for infection but are self-quarantining as a precaution.

Please watch for our new brochure to arrive by mail which details our achievements, the challenges we have ahead and our path to solve them.

We keep you in our prayers and ask you to do the same for us, so that we may come out of this global challenge strengthened and emboldened to continue our mission.

Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances;
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

- Thessalonians 5:16-18
